This Should Come as No Surprise

Dear Family and Friends:

We are now outside of Houston after a wonderful trip visiting with almost everyone we had hoped to see! It really was special for folks to take their time to share of themselves and catch up with us. Yesterday afternoon, we enjoyed a delicious home-cooked meal with Dani's Uncle Ken, Aunt Debbie, and Cousin Amber, followed by some relaxing chat time with my Cousin Phillip "Buddy" Holland. This morning, we were able to catch breakfast with Cousins Marissa and Maria. Hope your doctor appointment went well this morning, Maria. I will look forward to an update! (If we'd had more than two days and been able to check in with John, Womack, Alexis, and the Darroh boys and fams, it would have been perfection, but we will have to return! And perhaps give more notice next time ...) Thank you all again for your generosity in sharing with us!!

And now it is about 4:30 PM on Thursday and the following story will come as no surprise to some our readership ... we are stuck in Lake Charles, Louisiana, with car problems. Not just any ol' transmission problems that might get us back to NJ in fourth gear, oh no. A doozie. We have apparently destroyed a rod in the engine and the engine needs to be replaced. So, we are figuring out our options and will likely be making some changes to our visitation plans for the rest of this road trip. At least we're close to New Orleans if we're in the area for the weekend, right? (What is it about me and Louisiana and car issues, anyway?! Miss you, Danielley! Glad you're not here this time!)

We are managing to stay pretty calm and will figure it out as we gather our options. For tonight, we are renting a car to get to Atlanta tomorrow night and Raleigh on time for Saturday's wedding and will sleep on our options. (Parents, expect phone calls for some advice!)

Now, seriously, do y'all wonder why I have two cars? Please keep us in your prayers as we work our way home!

Much love,

Martha

hey guys, hope you are back on the road again--and not in Buford's pig--altough, my most memorable moment from IT is when we all piled in the pig and created a parade!!

After being down south I was reminded "what it means... to miss new orleans"... not a bad spot to get stuck for a bit. Though it'd be more fun if it were who chose to get you there and not car fate.

Hope you have better motor luck across the ocean...
